Consistent Websites Make For Great SEO
A great way to get higher rankings on a search engine is to make a website dedicated to a single topic. Many niche sites take advantage of this ability. It is not uncommon to find that several niche websites are run by the exact same company. That company will intentionally narrow down their focus on the website to achieve as high of rankings as possible. Sadly while this works, these websites serve no purpose but to serve advertisements. They make their money on stray clicks of Google AdWords or Amazon Associates. They tend to offer very little information in the subjects they claim to cover. It’s effective, but somewhat misleading. (However, the purpose of my articles are to educate on SEO, not proselytize.) Specialization plays right into a search engine’s method of indexing.
It’s the nature of search engines to divide websites into simple categories. Search Engine Optimization plays into that characteristic. If a website neatly fits into one of those categories, it get a much better ranking for that category than one that would span two or three categories. The more specific your website is towards that category, the higher rankings it will receive in that category. If you are building a website on tools, you may not receive a high ranking as if you had built several websites for very specific tools types. Electrical, automotive, home use, computer, and telecommunication tools might all be sold in the same brick-and-mortar store, but when people are on the internet, they are looking for very specific types of tools. In real life, they may be forced to go to the same store, but on the Internet, specialty sites abound. Brick-and-mortar stores do the exact same thing. They organize their wares by type. Imagine if you had to buy a hammer, and then found out to buy the nails that you needed that you needed to travel to the garden section to buy nails.
Consistency is important in more than just content. It is important that your website should have a consistent look and feel over time. Massive restructures throw search engines into disarray. It makes search engines (and searchers) unable to find resources where they once thought that they were. A consistent update process also makes trouble shooting much easier.
The Internet is an ever changing place. New technologies and fashions come and go. It best to adapt with them so that drastic changes are never required. A good SEO strategy requires consistency. It’s best to attempt to achieve that consistency for Search Engine Optimization.
